These activities will make any day feel like spring break!

School districts across the state are dipping into spring break starting this week. If a family trip isn't in the plans or the budget, there's still somewhere you can go. Kate Mulford shared three creative at-home getaways that will make an ordinary Tuesday feel fun.

Tropical Island Getaway at Home

Turn your living room into a tropical escape! Kate's husband planned this activity for a date night, but once the kids got wind of it, they wanted and island escape too! Her husband hung black plastic tablecloths to enclose the space and set up a projector to play island scenes with ocean sounds from YouTube. The real kicker was the humidifier he brought in to simulate the humid heat you get in any tropical location. When the kids had their tropical getaway, the got their swimsuits to complete the beach vacay vibes.

Starry Night Indoor Camping

You may have gone indoor camping before, but you can take this activity up a notch. Kate pulled out a star projector to really sell the idea. They roasted s'mores over the stove and had a complete camping adventure on the cheap that was totally weather-proof.

DIY Drive‑In Movie Night

First craft, then watch a movie! The kids decorated cardboard boxes to look like cars and pulled up to their own family drive-in movie. Kate projected a movie on the living room wall and added lights for even more ambiance. A cute concessions stand completed the drive‑in movie feel.
