It's an age-old question: "Where should we eat tonight?"

Instead of mulling over a list and eventually landing at your usual place, try something new! The international and authentic food scene in Utah Valley is flourishing with exciting new restaurants coming to the area, plus the old favorites that are always a hit. So, why settle for the familiar when there are so many delicious possibilities waiting to be explored?

Hungry diners are sure to enjoy a delicious authentic meal at any of these Utah Valley establishments.

Little India (American Fork)

When you're craving rich, creamy, aromatic food, Little India in American Fork is the place to go. This hidden gem was recently ranked No.19 in Yelp's Top 100 restaurants in America!

Take your pick of staples like their top-notch chicken tikka masala or butter chicken. You could branch out and go with a lamb, seafood, or vegetarian dish. Those with sensitive palates will be happy to know you can customize the spiciness level.

Wash it down with a cool mango lassi or treat yourself to one of their traditional homemade ice creams for dessert. The garlic naan might just be the best you've ever had — really.

Black Sheep Café (Provo)

Black Sheep Café in Provo has been quietly making waves since they opened in 2012. Serving up a fusion of traditional Native American and southwestern food, Black Sheep is where to go when you want a unique meal that you can rave about to your friends.

Try a starter like the honey lavender frybread or hog jowl nachos, then order traditional Navajo tacos or green chili stew for your main course. The cactus pear lemonade and sweet potato wedges alone are enough to keep you coming back! You won't find a dining experience with this particular fusion of flavors anywhere else in Utah or perhaps in the whole country.

Sol Agave (American Fork)

For a combination of upscale ambiance and exquisite food, head to Sol Agave in American Fork. It's one of the buzziest new spots in Utah County, and according to reviews, it lives up to the hype. One Yelper says "Every detail on the plate is delicious. Even the salsa is the best I've ever had." Another reviewer urges "…you HAVE to have the butter cake."

Sol Agave is known for Cali-Mex style food which entails fresh, light flavors and lots of seafood options. No greasy plates here!

Food blogger Female Foodie rates Sol Agave as one of the best restaurants in Utah County and notes the from-scratch, freshly pressed tortillas. She encourages you to try a sample of what the restaurant does best — steak and seafood. "One of their most delicious dishes is their Mar y Tierra, a plate of delectable filet mignon enchiladas that absolutely melt in your mouth," the blogger says.

Hruska's Kolaches (Provo & American Fork)

So, what the Czech is a kolache? According to the local experts at Hruska's Kolaches, it started out as a piece of bread topped with fruit in Eastern Europe. Over time the yeasty creation transformed into a savory or sweet pastry. Think berry and cream cheese combinations reminiscent of a Danish, or savory rolls stuffed with bacon, egg, and cheese.

Hruska's famous sausage and gravy-stuffed kolache was even featured on Guy Fieri's Food Network show "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives!" Stop in and pick up a dozen of the fluffy creations, but make sure to get there early, because the kolaches are baked fresh every day and often sell out.

Mastra Italian Bakery & Bistro (American Fork)

Freshly made pasta? Check. Long-rise breads from scratch? Check. A chef/owner from Italy who crafts traditional Italian dishes in Utah County? Check! Mastra Italian Bakery & Bistro in American Fork is a unique, laid-back spot that serves some of the most authentic Italian you'll find in Utah.

Mastra's founder grew up in Genova, Italy and honed his skills working in a historical bakery there. After moving to Utah in 2015 and seeing a lack of authentic Italian cuisine, he decided to open his own restaurant. You'll find delectable layered lasagnas, traditional carbonara and cacio e pepe, and an assortment of salads, breads, and desserts. Magnifico!

Nazca Grill (American Fork)

Peruvian food might not be on your radar, but it should be. One time at American Fork's Nazca Grill will show you what you've been missing! To start off, try the plantains or Yuquita cheese balls. For a main dish, try a classic Peruvian dish like Papa Rellena (two potatoes filled with beef and served with a green sauce) or Lomo Saltado (a beef stir-fry with veggies, rice, and fries). ++

You can also try a dessert you've probably never had before like the Crema Volteada — a silky Peruvian flan — or picarones, which are sweet potato donuts with fig syrup.

Bombay House (Provo)

Everyone's favorite authentic Indian place is Bombay House — and for good reason. The Indian restaurant has been dishing up tasty fare in the heart of Provo since 1993. The rich aromas, vibrant murals, and cozy lighting will transport you thousands of miles away while you enjoy truly superb, authentic eats.

When ordering, you can't go wrong with any of the curries or the chicken tikka masala. The shrimp coconut korma and chicken makhani both come highly recommended as well. Though it may be a given, always be sure to order lots of buttery, warm naan. In fact, take home an order for a midnight snack — your future self with thank you. A bonus for those with dietary restrictions is that much of the menu is gluten-free, and there are plenty of vegetarian options.
