Take a drive through any residential neighborhood in Utah and you'll see a side-by-side, boat, toy hauler, jeep, or RV within a minute or two. Utah's diverse landscape is on the doorstep to some breathtaking scenery and experiences: off-roading in Moab or Sand Hollow, snowmobiling in the backcountry, or taking in the sun and sand at Lake Powell or Bear Lake.
Purchasing a recreational vehicle is often an investment, not only in money, but in quality time creating memories with family and friends.
Unfortunately, thefts of these vehicles have been on the rise in recent years. KSL 5 TV and other local news outlets have covered the uptick. Bud Bruening, president of UTV Utah, told KSL TV that members were seeing nearly one vehicle stolen per day in Utah. That tracks with reports in surrounding states as well. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, there are more than 20,000 pieces of powersports equipment stolen every year. That equates to approximately one every 30 minutes. One Utah company is looking to put a dent in those statistics.
Ride Dog
Utah-based and veteran-owned, Ride Dog, provides an easy-to-install anti-theft tracker for your vehicle that easily pairs with their app on your smartphone. Once active, the app passively keeps track of your vehicle's location or, when locked, actively monitors for motion and sets a geofence around the vehicle. If the vehicle is bumped or leaves the geofence, near-instant alerts come to the user's smartphone.
"Protection for your vehicle should be simple, secure, and reliable, nobody does that better than Ride Dog,"Adam Nelson, founder and president of Ride Dog said.
During early testing, Nelson and the team quickly found out why some devices out there are so cheap.
"Like they say, if you don't pay for the product, you are the product. With cheaper devices, we quickly found out that we weren't the only ones who knew exactly where it was and where it had been," Nelson explains. "We've spent a lot of time and money to ensure that there are no "back-doors" to our user's data. We take security very seriously, that's why we've built our solution with quality products from the ground up."
Ride Dog carries coverage from the top three network providers: Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. It has reliable location services across the U.S. as well as in Canada and Mexico.
