Carbon County officials are busy preparing for a brand new adventure experience launching June 3: the Carbon Corridor SPX GeoTour. This GeoTour leads visitors to explore the Corridor in a new immersive way while learning about the importance of being a good steward, preserving the area's history, and Xploring some of Utah's hidden gems.
Carbon County will host a launch party from 9 a.m.-11 a.m., June 3, at the USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum with exclusive giveaways, live radio coverage, donuts and coffee to fuel up, and so much more before the GeoTour launches at noon. This is an event you will not want to miss!
What is Geocaching?
Don't worry if you are new to geocaching. This GeoTour is perfect for both newcomers and experienced geocachers.
To put it simply, geocaching is a free real-world treasure hunt happening all around the world all the time. Geocachers use their phones or other GPS devices to find hidden containers called geocaches. Chances are you have walked right by a geocache many times in your life without even realizing it.
For example, a geocache could be as small as a key fob stuck to the back of a sign in the city, or a large box hidden within a fallen tree root on a remote hiking trail, to any and everywhere in between.

Once you find a geocache you open it and sign the logbook, joining the list of geocachers from all around the world who have also found this hidden gem. You may also discover some small trinkets and swag inside the geocache, and for those who want to, you are invited to trade a small trinket for something you see inside.
The general guideline is to leave something that is of equal value to the item you took. Then you place the geocache container back where you found it and share your experience with the rest of the Geocaching community.

What to expect on the SPX GeoTour
The Carbon Corridor SPX GeoTour will include a total of 35 new caches, each one leading you on a new adventure to learn about being a good steward of the environment, to discover more about the area's rich history, or to see some of the top exploring spots in the Corridor.
Stewardship geocaches are perfect for those who want to learn more about how to responsibly recreate in the Carbon Corridor. A stewardship geocache may lead you to the perfect star gazing spot to help showcase the importance of dark sky communities. Or you may find yourself learning about things you can do to keep rock art visible for generations to come at another geocache.
Preservation geocaches take you on a journey through historic moments in time here in the Carbon Corridor. Travel back millions of years as you hunt for a geocache among larger-than-life geological formations. Or find yourself face to face with an 18-foot-tall miner as you learn about our rich mining history.
If you are always looking for adventure, the Xploration geocaches are going to be perfect for you. An Xploration geocache could lead you to your new favorite hiking destination, complete with two waterfalls. You may even find your new favorite food stop near a geocache, perfect for fueling up after a long day of adventures.
The best part is geocachers can choose their own adventure. More of a history buff? Set a goal to find all of the preservation geocaches. Packed your hiking boots and ready for the best trails? Xploration geocaches were genuinely made for you!
Those up for a bit more of a challenge will get some sweet rewards. If you find 30 of the 35 geocaches in the GeoTour and return the accompanying passport, we will send you an exclusive Carbon Corridor SPX GeoTour trackable GeoTag. If you find all 35 caches you get to proudly display your digital souvenir, only available to GeoTour completers, as a badge of honor on your geocaching profile, proving that you have truly embraced the SPX principles.
