Car lovers and shoppers, rejoice! The 2023 Utah International Auto Expo returns to the Mountain America Exposition Center Jan. 13-16 and it's going to be better than ever. Attendees will be able to see, sit in and explore hundreds of new cars, trucks, crossovers, SUVs, EVs, exotics and more, all in a no-pressure environment.

The Utah International Auto Expo is also the perfect time to experience the latest automotive technology. Cars are the safest they've ever been, and during the show, there will be corporate product specialists from the automotive manufacturers to answer questions and provide information on all the latest features — even regarding some models not yet available in dealer showrooms.

Here is a sampling of some of the latest automotive technology that will be on display during the 2023 Utah International Auto Expo.

Rear Cross Traffic Warning (RCTW)

Voted as the most-liked safety feature by Consumer Reports, Rear Cross Traffic Warning (RCTW) is a game changer whenever backing up. "When your car is in reverse gear and about to back up, this feature alerts you if it detects vehicles approaching behind you from either side," writes Keith Barry for Consumer Reports.

Some systems will even go the extra mile and warn you if it detects objects, pedestrians or other potential hazards.

Blind Spot Warning (BSW)

Voted as the second most-liked safety feature by Consumer Reports, Blind Spot Warning (BSW) is another feature once you've experienced you can't live without.

How it works is when your car is moving it detects vehicles in your blind spot. It then alerts you, usually with a light in the side mirrors and possibly a beep or other alert notification. If you switch the turn signal while a vehicle is in your blind spot, the BSW system will escalate the warning.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

Ranked third favorite by Consumer Reports, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is an excellent feature that will completely change the way you commute and take road trips. This feature, through radars and other sensors, ensures that you maintain a specified distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. Deceleration and acceleration happen automatically with this feature turned on, and can even bring you to a complete stop in most vehicles.

If traffic hasn't been your thing (is it anybody's?), then you will love ACC.

Lane Centering Assistance (LCA)

Have you ever been driving down the freeway only to have car after car slowly drift over the lines and into your lane? It happens more and more often these days (no thanks to cell phones — just put it down!), and thankfully, there's a feature that can help with that. Lane Centering Assist does just as it says — it assists the driver to keep the vehicle centered in the lane.

Consumer Reports says that while this system is not intended to do all the work for the driver and can be the nudge you need to keep from wandering over the painted line.

Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)

Perhaps one of the most life-saving features available in vehicles today is Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). This system "detects potential collisions with a vehicle ahead and automatically applies the brakes to avoid impact or lessen the severity of a crash," said Keith Barry for Consumer Reports. Some systems can even detect cyclists and pedestrians.

Safety technology has come a long way in the last decade. If you're driving an old clunker, it's time to check out a new vehicle at the Utah International Auto Expo, even just for the sake of your safety. Not only will corporate product specialists be on hand to explain every feature to you, but you'll also have the opportunity to take no-pressure test drives in a variety of trucks, crossovers, SUVs and more.
