Imagine getting the car you want, down to the color of the interior and the size of the engine. You carefully choose the paint color, the leather seats, and if you really want that third row in the back. A few years ago, most people didn't know this kind of custom design was possible. Now, it seems to be closer to the norm.

Sean Tucker writing for Kelley Blue Book says that chip shortages and supply chain issues have signaled a major turn of events for car dealers and buyers. Custom ordering a new car is the way of the future.

You might have to wait a few months to receive your order, but with all the benefits of ordering, the process is definitely worth the wait. Here are four reasons why you should order your next car.

It's fun

Ordering a new car is a lot of fun. With most manufacturers, you first design your car with an online configurator. Once you're satisfied, you then submit the build to a dealer, you agree to a price, you put down a deposit and the dealer submits the order. Then you wait.

Ronald Montoya of Edmunds.com explains that ordering allows more time for daydreaming, researching options and packages and letting the anticipation build once the order is in. Who hasn't dreamed of designing their perfect car?

Easier on the wallet

Private sellers know the demand for their used cars and are ready to wait a couple days more for someone to pay their asking price—no negotiations.

Ordering a new car will ensure you get a pre-negotiated, locked-in price at or below the manufacturer's suggested retail price for your vehicle long before it arrives.

Buying directly from the factory will also save you from potentially buying someone's used car with a load of problems under the hood. Ordering new means you won't have to check for past accidents, alignment issues or other problems that a private seller won't disclose—saving you money in the long run.

You get exactly what you want

If you're someone who looks for a specific set of features, colors, and specs, finding a used or new car that checks all the boxes can be difficult. Not to mention, if you do find the car you've wanted, it might be sold by the time you drive to the dealership.

Instead, by ordering your new car, you get the options, packages and colors you want. Sean Tucker of Kelley Blue Book suggests that ordering a new car brings peace of mind knowing that you're getting exactly what you were hoping for, without the pressure to settle for whatever was available on the lot at the time.

It gives you time to feel confident

Ordering also removes a portion of the "gotta have it now" emotion that can lead to an impulsive decision. Waiting for your custom order takes time and allows you to make sure you really want the car. Most dealerships will require a deposit at the time of your order, but should you change your mind Ken Garff dealerships will release you from your order and refund your deposit, no questions asked.

Sean Tucker of Kelley Blue Book explains that making such a large financial decision is a big deal, and a few months of waiting can clear your view after the tunnel vision of the moment has passed.
