When compassion, patriotism and RVs collide, good things happen. That's exactly why Epic RV has organized a – for lack of a better word – epic fundraiser this Saturday benefitting Corporal Wyatt Wilson and family.
On August 26, Wilson, a Marine Corps corporal and Utah native was seriously injured in the suicide bombing that killed 13 of his U.S. comrades, dozens of Afghan citizens and injured many more at the Kabul Airport. Originally from Carbon County, Wilson sustained multiple injuries to his chest and face, according to a September KSL report. While Wilson underwent surgery to repair his jaw, he will need ongoing surgical procedures to address shrapnel wounds to his torso and extremities.
While a GoFundMe has been set up for Wilson and his family, the fund has received just over $33,000 of its $100,000 goal. With Wilson and his family – including wife Justice and daughter Poppy – still in need of support through an unexpected and difficult time, Epic RV has stepped up to the plate – lunch plate that is. Saturday's fundraiser includes a BBQ lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs. The cost is $10 per plate and all proceeds go directly to the Wilson family.

Whether or not you're having lunch, you'll leave the event having done some good – and maybe with a sweet new toy to boot. In exchange for your $20 ticket, you'll be entered into a drawing for some amazing prizes, including a brand-new 2021 Aspen Trail 17BH RV, courtesy of Epic RVs. Other prizes include a portable Camp Chef pellet grill, Dewalt drill set, gift cards and other exciting camping-themed prizes.
All proceeds of the event will go directly to the Wilson family and will be used to cover the myriad unexpected expenses they continue to face throughout this ordeal, including travel, lodging and meals.
The event hits off Saturday, Oct. 9 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Epic RV at 5129 North Hwy 6 in Helper. Prize drawing tickets are $20 each, with a free ticket included for every five purchased. Tickets are currently available at Epic RV, A1 Rental, Carbon Emery RV, JN Auto and Price Auto Farm.
A chance to win an RV and you don't need to be present to win
Tickets can also be purchased through Venmo. Please address payment to @wilson_fundraiser. While you do not need to be present to win any of the prizes, you must be over 18 to win the grand prize RV.
The event is just a small way to show appreciation for the state's men and women in uniform. Last month, Senator Mitt Romney expressed his gratitude to U.S. service members in Afghanistan on the Senate floor. The speech, as reported by Deseret News, called out Wilson specifically.
"You and your brothers and sisters in arms have answered the call to serve with valor and devotion, and your service rendered continues to protect us to this day," Romney said.
If you're looking for an opportunity to express your gratitude to one of Utah's own, be sure to participate in Saturday's event – whether or not you can be there in person.
