LONDON, Sep 15, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Freer access to the morning-after pill in Britain has not trimmed pregnancy or abortion, a report says.
In fact, the number of abortions has risen, the Scotsman reported.
Anna Glasier, director of family planning at NHS Lothian writing in the British Medical Journal, said the pill was useful "in some women some of the time," but was not reducing abortion rates.
She said also there was no significant drop in teenage pregnancies.
Peter Kearney, spokesman for the Scottish Catholic Church, said the easily accessible pill "is like saying it is all right to be sexually promiscuous."
