5-YEAR-OLD’S MESSAGE ABOUT CORONAVIRUS RESONATES
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — An Alaska youngster’s heartfelt message about the new coronavirus has gone, well, viral. The message is from 5-year-old Nova Knight — and in her video, the Fairbanks youngster combines compassion and tough love to her fellow kids — and their parents. In the clip she says, “I’m sorry if you can’t go to your play dates,” before adding, “Don’t go anywhere. And wash your hands. I’m serious.” Nova’s message, posted last month, has already been viewed more than 18,000 times — and has even drawn praise from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
CORONAVIRUS HOWLING
DENVER (AP) — It’s an effort to cope with the stress of living in the COVID-19 age. And you can say it’s — literally a howling success. Each evening at 8 p.m., people scattered around the country have gotten into the habit to step out of their homes, and HOWL. The howls are to thank health care workers and first responders, trying to stem the tide of the new coronavirus. Some are howling to reduce their pain, isolation and frustration at being stuck inside by the virus. Others have done it to show support for the homeless. Some state leaders, like Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, have urged residents to participate.
CONGRESS MAY GOVERN FROM AFAR
WASHINGTON (AP) — The word “congress" means to gather together. But the coronavirus pandemic and election year politics are combining to create the possibility that members of Congress will be forced to govern from afar. The current legislative body is due to reconvene in Washington the week of April 20. But it’s unclear if the spread of COVID-19 will allow that. If circumstances keep lawmakers from the capital, they may have to try things like virtual meetings — and voting by proxy.
