SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah attorney has been barred from practicing law in Utah for the next three years after several clients complained about him to the Utah State Bar. An August settlement agreement says at least 20 clients have complained about North Salt Lake-based attorney Sean Young. Young admitted to violating attorney rules in four cases, and the Utah State Bar's Office of Professional Conduct agreed to drop 16 other complaints.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah man accused of running a multimillion operation selling powerful opioids disguised as prescription drugs has pleaded not guilty to new charges filed in an overdose death. Court records show Aaron Michael Shamo entered the plea Tuesday. Prosecutors say a person identified as R.K. died in June 2016 after taking fentanyl Shamo sold disguised as the less-powerful drug oxycodone.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Gov. Gary Herbert is planning to ask the U.S. Department of Agriculture for permission to thin forests, clear out dead trees and do controlled burnings on protected areas that account for nearly half of national forest lands in the state. The Salt Lake Tribune reports the Republican governor is seeking to adjust how the U.S. Forest Service's Roadless Area Conservation Rule is applied in the state to allow for better state influence over national forests.
DURANGO, Colo. (AP) — A Colorado deputy cleared of criminal wrongdoing in a deadly shootout and chase that ended across the Utah border was terminated for violating department policy. The Durango Herald reports a federal prosecutor ruled in August that the shooting by Montezuma County Sheriff's Sgt. Edward Oxley was justified, but Sheriff Steve Nowlin fired him in September following an internal affairs investigation. Oxley killed Fordell Hill after a 12-mile car chase in February.
