DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — For fans anxiously awaiting post-season college basketball tournaments, tonight is the start of the men's NCAA Tournament. It's the play-in completion and four teams are involved — squads that weren't among the initial teams invited to the tournament starting Thursday. The first game pits New Orleans against Mount St. Mary's in Dayton, Ohio. Later tonight it's Kansas State vs. Wake Forest.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Coveted free agent linebacker Dont'a Hightower's tour hit Pittsburgh today, but Hightower left the team's facility without signing a deal. The team announced it hosted him after he spent Monday getting wooed by the New York Jets. Hightower spent most of the day at the team's headquarters, but left early in the evening without a deal imminent.

UNDATED (AP) — There are 8 games in the NHL tonight. The New York Islanders are at Carolina; Minnesota meets Washington; It's Tampa Bay against Ottawa; Toronto faces Florida; Chicago meets Montreal; Dallas is at Edmonton; It's Arizona against Los Angeles; and Buffalo plays San Jose.

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. (AP) — Rafael Nadal defeated Fernando Verdasco 6-3, 7-5 in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open for his 50th career victory at the desert tournament. Nadal closed out the 1 1/2-hour match in 95-degree (35 C) heat with a forehand winner on Tuesday. The three-time tournament champion could next face Roger Federer, who played American Steve Johnson later.

GULLANE, Scotland (AP) — Muirfield has voted to admit female members for the first time in its 273-year history, paving the way for the Scottish golf club to again host the British Open. The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, which owns Muirfield and is the world's oldest golf club, held a second postal ballot after members voted last May to retain the male-only policy. That led to Muirfield being taken off the list of 10 courses that can host the British Open.
