PHOENIX (AP) — The Southwest will see another round of storms Wednesday as rains from Mexico's Tropical Storm Javier head north. Heavy rain is expected for a second day in Tucson. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch until Thursday. The storm on Tuesday made streets look like rivers.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The U.S. women's gymnastics team has won gold at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Team USA posted a score more than eight points clear of silver medalist Russia and nearly nine more than bronze winner China. It's the second straight Olympic title and third overall for the women's team.

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) — An Afghan official says troops are being sent to a key southern city in Helmand province, which could fall into the hands of the Taliban within days. The head of the provincial council says Taliban fighters have completely surrounded Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand. Fighting has closed all the highways leading into the city, forcing up prices for food and other basics.

PHOENIX (AP) — A second man has died after falling into a 20-foot underground grain storage facility in north Phoenix. Authorities say 61-year-old William Tryon was pumping water from the recent rain out of the underground unit when he fell in Monday night. Another man tried to rescue him, but fell into the large aluminum pipe, along with a third man. Tyron was the first to die of his injuries.

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (AP) — Police in Florida say a woman was accidentally shot to death by an officer during a citizens academy exercise. Punta Gorda police say Mary Knowlton was taking part in a roleplaying scenario Tuesday when she was "mistakenly struck with a live round." Police Chief Tom Lewis says Knowlton was chosen from about 35 people in the class for a "shoot/don't shoot" simulation.
