RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — It's gold again for U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps. Phelps earned his 21st career gold medal Tuesday night after swimming the anchor leg on the 4x200-meter relay at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Number 20 came earlier in the evening after Phelps took the 200-meter butterfly. Nineteen-year-old Katie Ledecky took gold for winning the 200-meter freestyle. And the U.S. women's gymnastics team also captured the gold.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — Democrats are accusing Donald Trump of openly encouraging violence against his rival Hillary Clinton. At a Tuesday rally, Trump suggested that gun rights supporters might still find a way to stop Clinton, even if she should defeat him and then name anti-gun Supreme Court justices. Trump falsely claimed that Clinton wants to "essentially abolish the Second Amendment."

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — An official with the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign says the campaign was not aware that the father of the Orlando, Florida, nightclub shooter was in the audience at a Monday night event in Kissimmee. Seddique Mateen was standing in a crowd behind Clinton, as the Democratic nominee expressed support for the attack victims and their families. Omar Mateen fatally shot 49 people and wounded another 53 in June before police killed him.

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — A peaceful demonstration in Ferguson, Missouri, ended in violence Tuesday night when a car sped through a group of protesters, striking and injuring one man, who was driven to the hospital. Then bullets flew. Officials say there's no evidence that anyone was shot. The demonstration was to mark the second anniversary of the death of Michael Brown, the unarmed black 18-year-old fatally shot by a white police officer.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man known as the "pillowcase rapist" is back in a California state mental hospital, two years after being released. A spokesman for Santa Clara County Superior Court says 65-year-old Christopher Hubbart violated terms of his release. Hubbart acknowledged raping at least 40 women and has been in and out of prison and state psychiatric hospitals. A judge ordered him released in 2013 after doctors said he had completed treatment and was fit to live in the community.
