DALLAS (AP) — A day and a-half after Delta Air Lines was hit by a global computer outage, travelers are still encountering canceled and delayed flights. By late morning, nearly 400 of today's Delta flights had been scrubbed, and more than 700 delayed -- according to the tracking service FlightStats.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The American University of Afghanistan says it will reopen, three days after two of its employees, an American and an Australian, were kidnapped at gunpoint in the capital, Kabul, by men in military uniforms. The university's president says the school will "remain vigilant to ensure the safety and security of all university personnel and students." He also says it's working with security agencies to secure the freedom of the two men. They were abducted Sunday evening as they traveled between the campus and their residence in Kabul. Their names haven't been released.
BALTIMORE (AP) — A Baltimore police officer who's been acquitted in the death of a black man who suffered a broken neck in a police van is set to receive nearly $127,000 in back pay. The Baltimore Sun reports that the city's Board of Estimates is scheduled to authorize the payment to Lt. Brian Rice. He was acquitted last month of manslaughter, misconduct and other charges in Freddie Gray's 2015 death, which sparked weeks of protests and two nights of rioting. Last month, the spending panel authorized $88,000 in back pay for Officer Caesar Goodson, the van driver.
BIG SUR, Calif. (AP) — California's biggest wildfire has expanded to more than 104 square miles north of scenic Big Sur. An army of more than 5,000 firefighters and an air force of tankers and helicopters has made progress, however, surrounding 50 percent of the nearly three-week old fire. Some residents have been allowed to return to their homes, but some evacuation orders remain in place, while others were reduced to warnings.
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The Dutch cyclist who was in a horrific crash during Sunday's Olympic road race has tweeted a picture of herself -- smiling, but with her face bandaged and black-and-blue. Annemiek van Vleuten said in the tweet that it's "hard to deal" with the disappointment -- but that she's "proud of our performance." She crashed hard during the descent toward the finish line when she led the race. Despite the heavy crash and three minor back fractures, she's not expected to have lasting damage. A teammate went on to win the race.
