WASHINGTON (AP) — In a sign of widening GOP fissures, top Republican donor and fundraiser Meg Whitman is endorsing Democrat Hillary Clinton for president. Whitman, a Hewlett-Packard executive, says Donald Trump has "exploited anger, grievance, xenophobia and racial division." And Trump told The Washington Post on Tuesday that he may withhold an endorsement of Speaker Paul Ryan. Trump also criticized Sen. John McCain and New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte (AY'-aht). All three questioned Trump's criticism of an American Muslim couple whose son, an Army captain, was killed in Iraq.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) —Kansas Congressman Tim Huelskamp, a tea party favorite, has been sent packing by voters in his western and central Kansas district. The Republican was defeated by obstetrician Roger Marshall. Farm groups turned against the combative Huelskamp when he lost his seat on the House Agriculture Committee in 2012. He didn't take Tuesday's loss kindly. His campaign kicked reporters out of his watch party at a hotel in Hutchinson.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea has sent another signal of its anger over U.S. plans to deploy a missile defense system in South Korea by the end of the year. The reclusive country fired a ballistic missile on Wednesday that flew hundreds of miles and landed near Japan's territorial waters. It's the fourth reported weapons launch the North has carried out in about two weeks.

BALTIMORE (AP) — The National Urban League says it will use its annual conference, which begins Wednesday in Baltimore, to focus on saving cities. The head of the group, former New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial, says the group chose Baltimore because it considers the Maryland city a front line. Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine will address the conference on Thursday.

MIAMI (AP) — The National Hurricane Center in Miami says Tropical Storm Earl is likely to generate flooding in parts of Mexico, Belize and Honduras. Tropical storms warnings have been issued for some areas of all three of those countries and a hurricane watch was issued for part of the Mexican coast. Earl is blamed for six deaths in the Dominican Republic.
