WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is challenging Republican lawmakers to drop their support for their party's presidential nominee, saying Donald Trump is "woefully unprepared" to serve in the White House. Asked about Trump at a news conference with the prime minister of Singapore, Obama said, "There has to come a point at which you say enough." Obama says he disagreed with his Republican opponents in the 2008 and 2012 elections, but he never thought they were unfit to do the job.

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Donald Trump has told supporters in Virginia that if he is elected president, he would require the Arab Gulf states to finance a safe zone in Syria. About a dozen protesters were escorted out of the rally in Ashburn after they started chanting "Hillary." One protester was wearing a shirt reading "Islam means peace." Many of them raised fists when they were escorted out.

ATWATER, Calif. (AP) — Five people are dead and at least five others are in the hospital after a bus crash in California. The Merced County sheriff says several of the injured passengers lost limbs. He says the bus hit the pole of a highway sign head-on early today near Livingston, and it sheared through the vehicle before stopping at the first axle "with a great impact."

MIAMI (AP) — A weather system that already has caused at least six deaths in the Dominican Republic has become a tropical storm, with winds of 45 miles an hour. The National Hurricane Center in Miami says Tropical Storm Earl is threatening to bring heavy rain, flooding and high winds to Mexico, Belize and Honduras. Tropical Storm warnings have been issued for parts of those countries, and part of the Mexican coast is under a hurricane watch.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The 10 members of the Olympic refugee team have been given a standing ovation at the International Olympic Committee's general assembly meeting. IOC President Thomas Bach (bahk) seemed to be near tears as he introduced the athletes from Syria, South Sudan, Congo and Ethiopia, then gave a big hug to the Kenyan leader of the delegation. Bach told the IOC members that the refugee team will "make the world more aware of the crisis" and "send a message of hope to all refugees."
