DIETRICH, Idaho (AP) — An 18-year-old high school student who prosecutors say sexually assaulted a black teammate in an Idaho locker room has waived his right to a preliminary hearing. The Times-News reports that John R.K. Howard was set to appear in court on Friday after several delays, by the waived his right to the hearing on Thursday.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A rally in Idaho to support law enforcement officers has been postponed indefinitely out of respect to the family of a rancher who was shot and killed by deputies. State Rep. Judy Boyle tells the Idaho Statesman newspaper that holding the rally now would look "like a poke in (the family's) eye" after Friday's announcement that state and federal officials would not press charges against the deputies who killed Jack Yantis.
POST FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A northern Idaho daycare has closed its doors after an investigation by the state's Department of Health and Welfare found multiple violations. KREM-TV reports that state inspectors reported earlier this year that Here We Grow daycare, based in Post Falls, left 22 children alone in several rooms.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The estate of an Idaho inmate who died last year has settled a lawsuit with Canyon County. The Idaho Statesman reports that 46-year-old Alfred "Jeri" Young's estate argued that workers ignored Young's medical requests leading up to his 2014 death. The county says it wasn't aware of Young's HIV diagnosis.
