Burned body near wildfire...Searing heat for Dem convention opener...11 dead in Baghdad bomb

LOS ANGELES (AP) — California authorities are investigating the discovery of a burned body in a wildfire evacuation neighborhood. It hasn't been determined if the discovery represents a fire casualty or not. It was discovered near a home that may also have burned. Thousands of homes remain evacuated today due to two massive wildfires.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia has more to contend with than Democratic convention delegates. A heat wave is expected to drive temperatures to 96 today and as high as 100 tomorrow, the first day of the convention. Many parts of the United States are experiencing higher than normal temperatures and Philadelphia is about the hardest hit in the Northeast.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Officials say a deadly suicide bombing in northern Baghdad bears the hallmarks of the Islamic State group but there's been no formal claim of responsibility today. The bomber attacked a security check point, killing at least 11 people including three police officers in a Shiite district.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Today is a national day of mourning in Afghanistan for at least 80 people were killed by a suicide bomber attack on a peaceful demonstration in the capital, Kabul. The Islamic State group is claiming responsibility. Funerals are also taking place today. The government issued a ban on all public gatherings and demonstrations for 10 days.

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. (AP) — The Jackson Hole News & Guide is reporting the death in a fall of a mountain guide as he led tourists down Grand Teton mountain. The park's helicopter flew two rangers into a point nearby, and they hiked to the scene. The guide's body was recovered via helicopter.
