CLEVELAND (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is expected to name her running mate before the party's national convention begins Monday in Philadelphia. And she could make that announcement today in Tampa, the beginning of a two-day campaign swing in Florida, or tomorrow during an afternoon rally in Miami. Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine is the leading contender but one Democrat familiar with the selection process says Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, a longtime friend of Hillary and Bill Clinton, is still in the mix.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Donald Trump says he's the voice of "the forgotten men and women of our country." Trump accepted the Republican presidential nomination last night at the national convention, saying he's joined the political arena "so that the powerful can no longer beat up on people that cannot defend themselves." Trump also said that as president he'll restore a sense of public safety, strictly curb immigration and save the nation from what he says is Hillary Clinton's record of "death, destruction, terrorism and weakness."

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A funeral service will be held today for one of the three Baton Rouge, Louisiana officers killed by a gunman who ambushed them Sunday. Matthew Gerald served 11 years in the military before joining the Baton Rouge Police Department. Sheriff's deputy Brad Garafola's (gar-ah-FOE'-lah) will be remembered at a Saturday funeral. City police officer Montrell Jackson will be buried Monday.

NEW DELHI (AP) — The Indian air force says it's lost contact with a transport plane carrying 29 people to islands in the Bay of Bengal. The defense ministry says the aircraft took off from the southern city of Chennai this morning. The flight was supposed to last three hours, but there was no contact even six hours later.

GENEVA (AP) — In just a few days, the number of migration deaths on the Mediterranean Sea is expected to top 3,000, and it'll have been the third straight year that level has been reached. The International Organization for Migration says 2,977 migrants and refugees have died trying to cross the sea this year, and another two dozen corpses are believed to be on boats now heading toward Italian shores.
