CLEVELAND (AP) — Donald Trump is back in Cleveland -- and there's a chance he could appear again at the convention tonight when his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, addresses the delegates. Trump's acceptance speech will take place tomorrow night. His son, Donald Trump Junior, says the speech will be about "taking care of America." As for whether it will resemble his free-wheeling remarks at rallies, the younger Trump says, "This is a time where there will be discipline."

CLEVELAND (AP) — A speechwriter for the Donald Trump organization is offering an explanation for how some passages from a Michelle Obama speech eight years ago ended up in Milania Trump's remarks to the GOP convention Monday night. Meredith McIver says Mrs. Trump has "always liked" the current first lady, and that she read to McIver some passages from Mrs. Obama's speech "as examples." McIver says she wrote them down and later included them in what became Melania Trump's speech. McIver says she offered to resign, but Trump refused to accept the resignation.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Clinton's vice presidential search is centering on three main contenders, with an announcement expected as soon as this weekend as the Democrat prepares for her party's national convention next week in Philadelphia. Democrats familiar with the search say Clinton's running mate process has focused on Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Labor Secretary Tom Perez. They cautioned that Clinton had not yet reached a final decision and was weighing a number of factors, including the person's readiness to be president, personal compatibility and ability to help her administration govern.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — A slain Kansas City, Kansas, police officer had been awaiting the arrival of another child. Police said in a release today that Capt. Robert Melton's partner was pregnant and due to give birth this winter. Melton was shot and killed yesterday when he was responding to a police call. Two suspects are in custody.

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are closing higher on Wall Street, led by gains in technology companies after Microsoft reported surprisingly strong results. The gains extended a winning streak for the Dow Jones industrial average and kept the market at record-high levels. The S&P 500 rose 9 points, while the Dow gained 36. The Nasdaq composite climbed 53 points.
