CLEVELAND (AP) — A Trump Organization staff writer says she made a "mistake" in including passages from a Michelle Obama speech in Melania (meh-LAH'-nee-ah) Trump's convention speech. Meredith McIver says she offered her resignation, but Donald Trump rejected it. McIver says Mrs. Trump read passages of Mrs. Obama's 2008 convention speech during the writing the process, and her notes from that conversation made it into the final version. She says she feels terrible for the "chaos" she caused.

PARIS (AP) — The French National Assembly has voted to extend the nation's state of emergency for another six months, and the French Senate is expected to follow suit later today. The state of emergency has been in place since the Nov. 13th Paris attacks that left 130 dead. Paris officials are also canceling some summer events due to security issues. The developments follow last week's truck attack in Nice that killed 84 people and injured more than 200.

BRUSSELS (AP) — A security alert that triggered a partial lockdown in Brussels today turned out to be a false alarm, according to police. The alert was prompted by a man seen wearing a heavy coat with wires hanging out. Police cornered the man in the center of Brussels but say no explosives were found on him. Authorities think he was a student measuring radiation levels in the Belgian capital. He was detained for questioning.

BELLEFONTAINE NEIGHBORS, Mo. (AP) — Police in a St. Louis suburb are searching for a 13-year-old girl suspected in a shooting that critically wounded a Korean couple in their 70s. It happened yesterday at a beauty supply store. The victims are the parents of the store's owner who were working in the store and speak little English. Police believe the girl had been kicked out of the store earlier in the day for stealing. They say she should be considered armed and dangerous.

MIAMI (AP) — Health officials in Florida are investigating what could be the first Zika infection from a mosquito bite in the continental United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Florida's Department of Health say lab tests have confirmed that a person in the Miami area has the Zika virus, and the case might not be linked to travel outside the country. The CDC says more than 1,300 Zika infections have been reported in the U.S., but none involved bites from local mosquitoes. All 88 of the Zika infections confirmed so far in Miami-Dade County have been found to be travel-related.
