BEIJING (AP) — International stock markets were higher today after Wall Street gains and better Chinese economic data helped to defuse jitters over Turkey's failed coup. Futures point to opening gains on Wall Street. Benchmark U.S. crude inched up to just under $46 a barrel. The dollar gained against the yen and slipped against the euro.
MANILA, Philippines (AP) — The Asian Development Bank says it's cutting its 2016 growth projection for developing economies in Asia and the Pacific to 5.6 percent, down from its earlier forecast of 5.7 percent. The ADB adds that the economies' performance will remain solid and help offset softness from the U.S. economy and near-term market shocks from Britain's vote to exit from the European Union.
WASHINGTON (AP) — It'll be a big week for company earnings. Bank of America, Netflix and Yahoo kick things off when they announce quarterly financial results today. Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft, American Express, Visa and Starbucks are among the companies turning in results later this week. From the government -- investors can expect a report on housing starts for June. Construction of new homes has, for the most part, improved this year. The Commerce Department releases the latest data tomorrow.
NEW YORK (AP) — It's not a bust but Sony Picture's female-led "Ghostbusters" reboot played second fiddle to the holdover hit "The Secret Life of Pets." The much-scrutinized film opened with an estimated $46 million in North American theaters. "The Secret Life of Pets" stayed on top with $50.6 million in its second week.
DETROIT (AP) — Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk says he's optimistic that a software update can improve the semi-autonomous Autopilot system in the company's cars. Tesla has been working on changes to Autopilot since May, after one of its Model S sedans failed to sense a tractor trailer in bright sun and crashed into it. The driver was killed.
