3 officers killed, 3 hurt in Baton Rouge...Hostage situation in Baltimore...Stenson beats Mickelson to win British Open

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Authorities in Louisiana say three police officers have been shot dead in Baton Rouge. Three others were wounded in this morning's shooting, which happened less than a mile from police headquarters. The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office says one suspect has been killed and two others are believed to be at large.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana's governor is at the hospital where police officers were taken following today's shooting in Baton Rouge. A spokesman says Gov. John Bel Edwards was meeting with officers and their families. The White House says President Barack Obama has been briefed on the shooting and has asked to be updated throughout the day.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore Police say are they responding to a hostage situation at a Burger King. They say a suspect wanted on a rape charge fled from police and ran into the restaurant with a gun in hand. A SWAT team and negotiators are at the scene and police are asking the public to avoid the area in southwest Baltimore.

PHOENIX (AP) — A man and a woman who became stuck after crawling through a storm drain system have been rescued by Phoenix firefighters. Fire officials say the two entered a storm drain early this morning to search for a dog and crawled several miles before becoming trapped. A bicyclist riding by heard their screams for help and called 911. Firefighters spent nearly an hour using tools to gain access into the storm drain and rescue the victims. They were unharmed but didn't find the dog.

TROON, Scotland (AP) — After an epic duel at the British Open, Henrik Stenson has claimed his first major title. He shot an 8-under 63 today to beat Phil Mickelson by three strokes, becoming the first man from Sweden to win one of golf's biggest events. Stenson finished at 20-under 264 overall, breaking both the Open scoring record of 267 set by Greg Norman in 1993 and the major championship mark of 265 by David Toms at the 2001 PGA Championship. Mickelson shot 65 for a 267 total.
