ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — A Turkish government official says the commander of an air base used by the U.S. military is being held in connection with the failed coup. The official says authorities detained the general, 10 other soldiers and one police officer from the Incirlik (IHN'-jur-lihk) base, which is used by used by U.S.-led coalition jets to conduct bombing runs against the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria. Turkey says some 6,000 people have been detained in a government crackdown on alleged coup plotters and government opponents.

ISTANBUL (AP) — Turkish Airlines says it has canceled 196 domestic and international flights in and out of Istanbul due to disruptions in air traffic brought on by Friday night's attempted coup. The cancellations affect flights today and tomorrow. Regular operations had resumed yesterday, but a backlog of flights caused congested traffic at Istanbul's main airport. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration suspended all flights between Turkey and the U.S. after the coup attempt.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Authorities say a man has shot a Milwaukee police officer sitting in his squad car, seriously wounding him. They say the gunman apparently killed himself a short time later. It happened after police responded to two domestic violence-related calls early today. Police believe the shooter was the suspect in the domestic violence incidents.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore police have arrested more than 60 people during a protest after participants blocked lanes on an interstate in the city. Police say 55 adults and 10 juveniles were arrested when protesters blocked traffic on Interstate 83 yesterday. Social media video showed people forming a double line with their arms linked across the road. One participant wore a shirt referring to Freddie Gray, the man who was fatally injured in police custody.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The chairman of the Republican National Committee says he expects Thursday night will be a turning point in Donald Trump's bid for the presidency. Reince Priebus (ryns PREE'-bus) says that's when Trump will likely speak at the GOP convention, which starts tomorrow. Priebus tells ABC's "This Week" that Trump's speech on Thursday will give Americans a chance to see his presidential side and erase any doubt about Trump's ability to run the White House.
