Clinton promises action on immigration...Gingrich expects Trump VP decision soon...Report: Train didn't heed stop light before Texas crash

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Clinton is promising to expand upon President Barack Obama's executive actions on immigration if she's elected president. In a speech at the League of United Latin American Citizens' national convention, Clinton says she will put a comprehensive immigration bill before Congress in her first 100 days of office. She says she will create a "simple, straight forward system" in which people with sympathetic cases or a history of serving their communities can make their case and become eligible for deferred action.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Newt Gingrich says he's expecting to hear from Donald Trump this afternoon about his choice of a running mate. The former House speaker is said to be one of the top three contenders, along with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Gingrich tells The Associated Press that Trump has run a "very fair, open process" and said he looked forward to learning his decision. Gingrich later posted on Facebook that he would hold a live chat at 2 p.m. Eastern time about the "vice presidential picks and the VP selection process."

DALLAS (AP) — A preliminary federal report finds that a train crew failed to obey a stop signal before the train barreled head-on into another freight train last month in Texas. Inspectors for the National Transportation Safety Board say a BNSF Railway train was traveling about 65 miles an hour when it passed the stop signal. Three people were killed in the June 28 collision northeast of Amarillo, which triggered a fireball and caused containers and cars to tumble onto one another in a pileup.

DETROIT (AP) — Consumer Reports magazine is calling on electric car maker Tesla Motors to change the name of its Autopilot semi-autonomous driving system. The magazine says calling the system Autopilot promotes a dangerous assumption that Teslas can drive themselves. It also says the automatic steering should be disconnected until it's updated to make sure a driver's hands stay on the wheel at all times. The calls come after a man died in a May crash with the Autopilot on. Tesla says it has no plans to change the name.

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — An animal shelter in Indiana is asking "Pokemon Go" players to walk a dog as they wander the streets doing battle with digital monsters on their smartphones. The superintendent of Muncie Animal Shelter posted his idea on Facebook. More than 70 "Pokemon Go" players turned up yesterday to exercise dogs, including one who adopted one of them.
