WASHINGTON (AP) — A day after honoring five slain police officers in Dallas, President Barack Obama holds another White House meeting on law enforcement. The president will again meet with police officers. But he will also meet with mayors and civil rights activists as he seeks to support law enforcers while addressing concerns about possible bias.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The police chief of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, says a weekend burglary at a pawn shop led to the arrests of three suspects accused of stealing several handguns. Chief Carl Dabadie says one suspect told police the theft was carried out "to harm police officers."

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Donald Trump is said to be close to choosing a running mate, with an announcement set for Friday. Meanwhile, a GenForward poll says Trump is wildly unpopular among young adults, in particular young people of color. Democrat Hillary Clinton is also unpopular with young people, but not to the same extent.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea says an advanced U.S. missile defense system will be deployed in a rural farming town in the southeastern part of the country. The decision is angering not only North Korea and China but also local residents. They fear potential health hazards from the U.S. system.

BEIJING (AP) — China is warning other countries against threatening its security in the South China Sea. An international tribunal has ruled that Beijing has no legal basis for its expansive claims there. China says it could declare an air defense identification zone over the disputed area if it feels threatened.
