DALLAS (AP) — Both President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush have spoken at an interfaith memorial for the five Dallas police officers cut down by a gunman last week. It was held in a concert hall in Dallas. Five chairs left empty held folded flags and police department hats. Obama called for Americans to open their hearts. He said he has seen "how inadequate words can be in bringing about lasting change."

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Police say they have arrested three suspects and are seeking a possible fourth accused of stealing several handguns as part of an alleged plot to harm police officers in the Baton Rouge area. The plot is said to have been discovered while officers responded to a burglary at a pawn shop. One suspect was arrested at the scene and two others were tracked down. A state police official calls the alleged plot a "substantial credible threat" to police.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Police in the nation's capital say the U.S. Capitol and its office buildings were briefly locked down today briefly after suspects nearby shot at District of Columbia police with a small machine gun. Police arrested three men after stopping their car about two blocks from the Capitol. Police were alerted to a man with a gun in an area about a mile and a half south of the Capitol

LITCHFIELD, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker has declared a state of emergency in eight Wisconsin counties after heavy rains caused flooding, power outages and damage to roads and bridges. Walker says he is instructing the Wisconsin National Guard and all state agencies to help those affected by the storms. The National Weather Service reports some areas have received 7 to 10 inches of rain.

MARY ESTHER, Fla. (AP) — A woman tells authorities she was praying with her eyes closed when she missed a stop sign and ran into a home in northwest Florida. Deputies in Okaloosa County say the woman ran the stop sign and went through an intersection before plowing into someone's front yard and hitting their home. The Northwest Florida Daily News reports she was cited for reckless driving with property damage.
