SALT LAKE CITY -- The death of a Salt Lake County resident who contracted Zika while visiting a region where mosquitos carry the virus does not necessarily mean the virus is now present in Utah.
That's according to Dr. Mark Hiatt, executive medical director of Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Utah, who points out that the mosquitos that carry and transmit Zika do not live here.
Zika can be transmitted person-to-person by sexual contact, but Utah health officials say the person who died also had other underlying health conditions, and they were not able to say for sure that Zika caused the person's death.
