YERINGTON, Nev. (AP) — A state official says soil samples haven't turned up risky chemicals or hazardous materials where a liquid was poured into the ground on a video appearing to show employees of a Lyon County foundry dumping barrels of industrial waste. Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources spokeswoman JoAnn Kittrell says investigators are still trying to determine what was dumped, and are reviewing waste handling at the facility.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A business group says the $17.55 million paid for a northwest Las Vegas home by Strip illusion show headliner David Copperfield set an area record. The Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors said Thursday the price eclipsed the $17.375 paid in 2007 for a mansion at the Shadow Creek Golf Club in North Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — An environmental group said Thursday that it is expanding its investment in the Nevada Senate race by nearly sixfold. The League of Conservation Voters said Thursday it plans to spend nearly $1.4 million to support Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto as she seeks to replace retiring Sen. Harry Reid. She's running in a competitive race against three-term Republican state Rep. Joe Heck, who received low marks on the group's legislative report card.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Sheriff's officials released more details Thursday in the fatal police shooting of a man at a chicken wing cook-off in Reno. A Washoe County sheriff's office statement said Raul Saavedra-Vargas was from Morgan Hill, California, and that he refused to stop the vehicle Sunday after an earlier fender-bender while he drove the wrong way on a one-way downtown street. The statement said a Reno police officer tried to stop Saavedra-Vargas, but he continued driving the wrong way on another street.
