PHOENIX (AP) — Jury selection begins today for a trial on allegations that polygamous towns on the Arizona-Utah line have discriminated against people who aren't part of the communities' dominant religious sect. Colorado City, Arizona, and Hildale, Utah, are accused of denying housing, water services and police protection to nonbelievers. The towns are accused of serving as an arm of the FLDS Church.

CEDAR FORT, Utah (AP) — Authorities have identified the man and woman killed in the crash of a small jet yesterday in Utah County. Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon identified the dead as Donald Baker and his wife Dawn Elizabeth Hunter of Tucson, Arizona. Baker was the pilot and owner of the Cessna Citation 525. The plane went down west of Provo yesterday.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Officials say the Unified police officer who was shot to death by a fugitive in Holladay Sunday was working overtime to pay for his cancer treatments. Officer Douglas Barney had been on the force 18 years when he encountered Cory Henderson and was fatally shot. Backup officers responded and exchanged gunfire with Henderson, who died at the scene. Henderson went missing from a drug rehab center for parolees last month.

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — A fire in West Valley City has displaced a family and cost them their dog. KSL-TV reports that fire officials responded to the fire early Saturday after a neighbor saw flames and knocked on the door to notify the residents. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
