Trump brushes off use of his comments by radical recruiters...EU, Iran talk about Saudi executions...Obama heads back from vacation

WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump is brushing off an African militant group's video that uses his comments against Muslims to attract recruits. Trump tells Fox News that it's no surprise extremists would try to capitalize on words of a Republican presidential front-runner. The 51-minute video was released Friday by an al-Qaida affiliate known as al-Shabab. It shows Trump calling for Muslims to be banned from entering the U.S.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — The European Union's foreign policy chief has called Iran's foreign minister after Saudi Arabia executed a Shiite cleric. An EU statement says they had a "long conversation" and that both agree "no effort should be spared by all parties to keep the situation under control and to avoid sectarian tensions to escalate." Saudi Arabia executed Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr yesterday along with 46 others convicted on terror charges. Protesters attacked the Saudi Embassy in Tehran overnight.

PATHANKOT, India (AP) — An Indian government official says Indian troops have continued to battle at least two gunmen at an air force base near the border with Pakistan, more than a day and a half after the compound came under attack. The official says troops had two suspected militants cornered in a wooded area on the base. At least seven troops and four gunmen have been killed.

HONOLULU (AP) — President Barack Obama is returning to the rancor of the nation's capital after two weeks of vacation in his native Hawaii. He says he's "fired up" for his final year in office and ready to tackle unfinished business. At the top of his priority list is executive action that is expected to expand when background checks are required for gun purchases. Obama meets with Attorney General Loretta Lynch tomorrow to discuss a three-month review of what actions he could take to reduce gun violence.

BOSTON (AP) — The first feature-length documentary film about the Boston Marathon is in the works. Its creators say "Boston" will go well beyond the 2013 bombings to retrace the iconic footrace's first steps in 1897. Two feature films, a stage play and an HBO special about the bombings are also in production, but the makers of "Boston" say their project will focus on how the city and the 120-year-old marathon bounced back.
