HONOLULU (AP) — President Barack Obama is likely in for a fight when he returns today from his Hawaiian vacation to take up unfinished business including executive action that is expected to expand when background checks are required for gun purchases. The president says he's "fired up" for his final year in office. He'll meet tomorrow with Attorney General Loretta Lynch to discuss a three-month review of what actions he could take to help reduce gun violence.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard is comparing Saudi Arabia's execution of a revered Shiite cleric to a "medieval act of savagery." The guard says death of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr will lead to the "downfall" of the monarchy. Al-Nimr was among 47 people executed Saturday after being convicted of terrorism charges. He was an outspoken critic of the Saudi government.

HONG KONG (AP) — What's happening to the booksellers? That's the question pro-democracy lawmakers in Hong Kong want the government to answer after a fifth employee of a publisher specializing in books critical of China's ruling communists disappeared. Like four others who disappeared late last year, Lee Bo is associated with publisher Mighty Current. The company's co-owner is among those missing.

PATHANKOT, India (AP) — Officials are still giving no details about what's going on at an Indian air force base a day after militants attacked, killing six troops. Four attackers were also killed and a spokesman says security operations are ongoing today. Earlier, at least one grenade blast was heard from inside the base.

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) — Honduras' government says it has received a request from the United States for the extradition of former vice president and businessman Jaime Rosenthal, who is accused of money laundering. Foreign Minister Arturo Corrales says the request should be sent to Honduras' Supreme Court by Tuesday at the latest for a ruling. The U.S. Treasury Department accuses Rosenthal, his son Yani Rosenthal and nephew Yankel Rosenthal of laundering money for Central American drug traffickers.
