SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — Feral cats have won at least a temporary reprieve from the Sparks City Council. Council members approved a new zoning ordinance Monday but not until they removed a regulation that would have made it illegal to house feral cat colonies on public or private land. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the council received hundreds of emails from concerned community members on both sides of the issue.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Barrett-Jackson car auction is ending its three-year relationship with Hot August Nights in Reno. Hot August Nights director Mike Hahn says the Arizona-based company won't be returning to Reno next summer. He told the Reno Gazette-Journal officials for the collector car company informed him yesterday it was not in their best financial interest.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada utility regulators have voted keep existing rates for rooftop solar customers, even though the state hit a cap on net metering. The Public Utilities Commission voted yesterday to maintain the rates for at least a few months before permanent ones must be adopted by the end of the year. Net metering allows customers with solar panels at home to sell excess energy back to the utility company.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A homeless man who matter-of-factly described hiding in an apartment and killing a Las Vegas mom with a claw hammer says the woman's firefighter husband plotted the attack and promised him $5,000 to do it. Noel Scott Stevens testified yesterday that George Tiaffay bought the hammer he used in the attack on Shauna Tiaffay and the clothes he wore for the slaying as well as a hand-drawn map.
