CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities near Charleston, South Carolina plan to release more details today in the shooting of a black homeowner by a white sheriff's deputy who was responding to a call about a home invasion Thursday. Sheriff's officials in Charleston County say the man was shot outside his home after refusing to drop his gun. Law enforcement officials plan to meet with community leaders this afternoon to discuss the shooting. Last month, a white North Charleston Police officer repeatedly shot a black man in the back as he was running away. That officer has been charged with murder.

MOSCOW (AP) — An unmanned cargo ship that went out of control on its way to the International Space Station has fallen to Earth over the Pacific Ocean. Russia's space agency Roscosmos says the cargo ship Progress was expected to mostly burn up from the friction of re-entry, and no one reported seeing fragments. The cargo ship was launched April 28, but entered the wrong orbit and went into a spin. The next launch of a supply ship, by the U.S. company SpaceX, is planned for June.

SAINTE MARIE ISLAND, Madagascar (AP) — Divers in Madagascar believe they've found part of the treasure of pirate Captain Kidd. They say they've found a silver bar weighing about 110 pounds in a bay off the island of Sainte Marie, near Madagascar's northeast coast. It was presented to the president of the island yesterday. The diving team was led by Barry Clifford, an American undersea explorer who's been searching for pirate treasure for decades. Clifford believes there could be more treasure on the bay floor where he found the bar.
