CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A preliminary count shows an effort to recall Republican Nevada Assembly Speaker John Hambrick has fallen far short of the number of signatures needed to trigger a special election. Documents submitted to the Secretary of State from the Clark County Registrar indicate 270 people signed a petition seeking a recall election. The petition needed more than 4,100 signatures.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada schools are expected to keep the same star rankings for at least another year. The Nevada Board of Education has approved a state proposal to carry over the 2013-2014 star rankings to the current school year. Education officials have been discussing the option for months because Nevada schools are switching over to more rigorous standards and a different testing system.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Vote results show Elaine Wynn received 21.4 percent of votes cast affirmatively for company directors in her fight to stay on the board of Wynn Resorts Ltd. Wynn lost her campaign at last week's shareholder meeting but a vote tally wasn't immediately available. Wynn fought to be re-elected to the casino-resort company she co-founded after directors didn't re-nominate her.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — An onstage ankle injury has pop star Britney Spears rescheduling her performances tonight and tomorrow evening on the Las Vegas Strip so she doesn't, oops, do it again. A statement from the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino where Spears performs says the star's doctor recommended she take the two days to heal.
