Major quake in Nepal...Feds: Ice cream is still generally safe...Another big Baltimore protest

KATHMANDU, Nepal (AP) — Heavy damage and dozens of injuries are already being reported after a strong, shallow magnitude-7.9 earthquake shook Nepal's capital and the densely populated Kathmandu Valley. Officials report toppled walls and collapsed buildings. One resident in the capital says collapsed buildings include centuries-old temples. National radio warned people to stay outdoors in case of aftershocks. The quake was felt in New Delhi and in Pakistan.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal health officials say it's still safe to dive into the ice cream. The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say there's no reason to think ice cream in general is unsafe after listeria illnesses and deaths were linked to Texas-based Blue Bell Creameries and listeria was discovered in Ohio-based Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams.

BALTIMORE (AP) — The president of a black lawyers' group predicts thousands of people will turn out for another demonstration today over the death of a black man after an arrest. Good weather is forecast and protesters vow to shut down the city. The police department has acknowledged that Freddie Gray should have gotten medical attention at the scene and that he should have been seat-belted into a police van.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Union officials say the nation's busiest port complex in Southern California could face disruptions next week if truck drivers stay off the job as part of a long-running labor dispute. A vote is expected this weekend. The 16,000 drivers are mostly independent contractors who want to become employees of the trucking companies in the face of shrinking wages.

SEATTLE (AP) — Starbucks says it good to go again today after a computer outage affecting thousands of stores forced the chain to give away free drinks yesterday before closing many stores early. The company said the outage affected registers at 7,000 company-operated stores in the U.S. and 1,000 in Canada. The problem began in the East and spread west. It took several hours to resolve.
