Senate to hold hearings on police use of body cams...Baltimore police union description of protests criticized

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate is planning to hold hearings on the police use of body cameras. Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina called for the hearings today as peaceful protests over the death of a black man in police custody continue in Baltimore. Scott says body camera use will provide "increased protection for both law enforcement officers and those they serve."

BALTIMORE (AP) — Protests against the death of a Baltimore man a week after he was seriously hurt in police custody are peaceful. But a statement by Baltimore's police union compared the protesters to a "lynch mob." After it was called racially insensitive and inappropriate, the union president acknowledged he should have reworded it to say he didn't want it "to turn into a lynch mob."

They say they want to clarify that victims' families are not receiving money from a Tim McGraw concert this summer. The concert will benefit Sandy Hook Promise, a group has lobbied for tighter restrictions on guns.
