SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Costco says a Utah law banning price-fixing for contact lenses would be good for customers. The discount retailer filed court documents in Salt Lake City supporting the law against attacks from three of the nation's largest contact lens manufacturers. Costco argues price fixing by contact lens manufacturers forces them to charge higher prices and hurts competition. They're also fighting lens price minimums in a related California lawsuit.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah judge has ordered that a Saudi Arabian man facing rape charges be jailed without bail because authorities believe he's trying to flee the country. Orem Police requested the warrant for 27-year-old Monsour Alshammari, who is charged with rape and obstructing justice. He was arrested on those charges in March. Alshammari's attorney declined to comment.

CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK, Utah (AP) — Capitol Reef National Park has joined a handful of sites designated as having the highest quality night skies. The Salt Lake Tribute reports that the international Dark Skies Association has named Capitol Reef a Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park. Park staffers have also tried to reduce light pollution by creating an outdoor lighting inventory and improving light fixtures in the dark.

LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Eight tons of grass hay caught fire while a man was hauling it on a flatbed trailer through the Logan area. The Logan Herald Journal reports that Cache County Fire Marshal Jason Winn says the driver noticed the fire while on his way to Richmond on Monday afternoon. The fire destroyed $1,000 of hay and damaged the man's trailer.
