LAS VEGAS (AP) — The 5-year-old namesake grandson of Hall of Fame basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian is recovering at home after a stroke left him hospitalized last weekend. The boy's father said he was released from University Medical Center yesterday and will now start rehab with a home nurse. The elder Jerry Tarkanian, who led UNLV to a national title in 1990, died in February.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The woman who designed the iconic neon sign that has welcomed countless visitors to Las Vegas since 1959 has died. Betty Willis died Sunday in her Overton, Nevada, home, according to an obituary on the Virgin Valley & Moapa Valley Mortuaries website. The 91-year-old artist is credited with designing the famed and often mimicked "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" neon sign.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Interior Secretary Sally Jewell plans is announcing today whether she will move forward with plans to order federal protection for a type of sage grouse found only in California and Nevada. The formal announcement on a listing decision comes months before a more-sweeping decision is due Sept. 30 on whether to declare the greater sage grouse threatened or endangered in 11 western states.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A prominent Las Vegas sports bettor and three family members have pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges to avoid federal trial in a case that prosecutors had said involved a multimillion-dollar illegal wagering operation. The pleas by Glen Cobb his parents and his step-daughter could mean they avoid prison time.
