CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Assembly has approved a measure requiring parental notification before a minor can receive an abortion. The measure now moves to the Senate. The bill also requires a 48-hour wait time before the procedure. Democrats opposed the measure and said girls would go to desperate lengths to keep their parents from knowing about their abortion.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada senators have passed a bill that would toughen penalties against teachers and other school workers who have sexual relationships with students. Senators unanimously approved the measure that would require a school worker to register as a sex offender for life if they were convicted of a sexual crime involving a student.

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say the driver and passengers of a Toyota Camry killed in a head-on crash this week in North Las Vegas are 56-year-old Sheryl Uyematsu, 26-year-old Allison Uyematsu and 50-year-old John Thomas Snide. The occupants of the Toyota died at the scene on Lamb Boulevard near Centennial Parkway. The drive of the other car died later at University Medical Center in Las Vegas.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The contractor that ran Nevada's only maximum security youth prison is suing the state over the closure of Rite of Passage's Red Rock Academy north of Las Vegas. The Minden-based Rite of Passage is seeking more than $1 million in damages. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the lawsuit filed in Carson City district court also seeks to reopen the facility that was closed in March for repeatedly failing compliance checks.
