Al-Qaida seizes weapons in Yemen...Court hears immigration case...Cardinal George dies

SANAA, Yemen (AP) — Al-Qaida continues to take advantage of the chaos in Yemen. Security officials there say the Yemeni branch of the terror group was able to drive government forces out of a large weapons depot in the eastern part of the country today -- seizing tanks, rocket launchers and small arms. The advance came even as airstrikes from a coalition led by Saudi Arabia intensified in the country's capital and in its second-largest city.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Can an individual state try to reverse a federal immigration policy? That was the focus of most of the questions today, as federal appeals judges heard arguments on whether President Barack Obama can shield millions of immigrants from deportation. A coalition of 26 states, led by Texas, sued to block the plan. The Justice Department argues that Texas has no legal standing in the matter. But Texas responds that granting legal status to immigrants will cost the state a lot of money.

NASHUA, N.H. (AP) — At a gathering of potential Republican presidential candidates in New Hampshire, there's been plenty of criticism of the Common Core education standards. They were developed largely by state officials with the support of the federal government, but many Republican leaders see them as a federal takeover of education. That's how they were described today by former Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former New York Gov. George Pataki. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who's also there, differs from most of his potential rivals in supporting Common Core.

CHICAGO (AP) — Cardinal Francis George of Chicago has died after a long fight with cancer. He was 78. George was a vigorous defender of Roman Catholic orthodoxy who played a key role in the church's response to the clergy sex abuse scandal. At the height of that crisis, he led a group of U.S. bishops who persuaded Vatican officials to more quickly force out guilty priests.

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — ESPN has suspended reporter Britt McHenry for a week. This, after a video surfaced in which she is seen insulting a clerk at a towing company, making remarks about the clerk's intelligence, job and appearance. McHenry has tweeted an apology, saying she let her emotions get the best of her "in an intense and stressful moment."
