SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Howling winds have wreaked havoc across northern Utah, causing a major pileup on a busy highway and briefly halting flights at Salt Lake City's airport. A spokesman for the Utah Highway Patrol says the afternoon pileup caused one death and 25 injuries and closed a nearly 100-mile stretch of Interstate 80. Eastbound lanes have reopened. But a state Department of Transportation spokesman says westbound lanes remain closed.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Former Utah Gov. Norman Bangerter has died after suffering a stroke. He was 82. A family spokesman says Bangerter died at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray. Bangerter became the state's 13th governor when he was elected in 1984. He was the first Republican governor elected in 20 years in Utah. He is survived his wife Judy, six children, one foster son and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The chairman of the House Oversight Committee says the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration should step down amid allegations that DEA agents attended sex parties with prostitutes while stationed overseas. DEA chief Michele Leonhart has led the DEA since 2007 and was sole deputy for three years before that. An internal report released recently said government money was used to pay prostitutes.

ENOCH, Utah (AP) — Authorities say a family of three people and some animals died in a house fire that burned for hours in a southwestern Utah city. Enoch City police say 70-year-old Francis Brewington and her adult children, 46-year-old Cynthia Shaffer and 32-year-old Jay Brewington died in the Monday night fire.
