WASHINGTON (AP) — Congress appears ready to approve legislation giving it the authority to reject an emerging international nuclear pact with Iran. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee unanimously approved a compromise bill on Tuesday shortly after White House spokesman Josh Earnest conveyed the president's decision to sign it. A vote on an actual agreement to lift economic sanctions in exchange for Iranian nuclear concessions would come if Iran, the U.S. and five other super powers come to terms.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Senate committee will continue debate Wednesday on attempts to fix the much-maligned No Child Left Behind education law. Lawmakers favor giving states more control in determining how to hold public schools accountable for student performance. The early focus among lawmakers was aimed at giving states opportunities to reduce the amount of time students are focused on testing and preparing for tests.

BONNE TERRE, Mo. (AP) — The state of Missouri has executed an inmate for killing a man in a fit of rage over child support payments 16 years ago. Andre Cole was the third convicted killer put to death this year in Missouri. His lawyers failed to convince the U.S. Supreme Court that Cole was mentally ill and unfit for execution.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Final arguments are to resume Wednesday in New Jersey in the trial of an Orthodox rabbi accused of using brutal tactics to force unwilling Jewish men to divorce their wives. The defense says Rabbi Mendel Epstein was just "puffing and exaggerating" when he talked to undercover FBI agents. Epstein, his son and two other Orthodox rabbis face charges that include attempted kidnapping.

SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) — The gravestone of Hillary Rodham Clinton's father has been found toppled over at a Pennsylvania cemetery. Police say vandals may be responsible for upending the gravestone of Hugh Rodham in the Washburn Street Cemetery in Scranton. It was reported tipped over on Tuesday.
