SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — Ten Southern California deputies are on paid administrative leave after a helicopter from KNBC-TV in Los Angeles recorded several of them kicking and punching a man following a 2½-hour chase Thursday during which the suspect rode away on a stolen horse. San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon says the video "disturbed and troubled" him.

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The black man who was shot to death by a white police officer.in North Charleston, South Carolina, last Saturday is being mourned today. A steady stream of mourners, including the mayor of Charleston, gathered this afternoon at a wake in downtown Charleston to pay their respects to Walter Scott. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A second man is facing a criminal charge in connection with what authorities say was a plot to plant a bomb near Kansas military base to help the Islamic State group. A criminal complaint alleges 28-year-old Alexander Blair, of Topeka, knew about a plot by 20-year-old Topeka resident John Booker Jr. to detonate a bomb at Fort Riley.

FAIRDALE, Ill. (AP) — People who knew the two women killed by a devastating tornado system that swept through northern Illinois yesterday say they shared a friendship, favors and, ultimately, a neighborhood that turned out to be a prime target of a twister that also leveled much of their hometown. Fairdale is about 80 miles west of Chicago. Both women were in their late 60's.
