VALHALLA, N.Y. (AP) — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo says seven people are dead after a rush-hour commuter train slammed into a SUV at a crossing in the New York suburb of Valhalla. The SUV's driver and at least six people on the train were killed. A witness says the train pushed the vehicle along the tracks, causing flames to erupt from the SUV and the front of the Metro-North train. At least 12 other people aboard were injured.

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — A state news agency in Taiwan is reporting that a passenger train with 53 people aboard crashed shortly after takeoff on Wednesday. The aircraft is said to have crashed into a river in Taipei. Ten people are said to be awaiting rescue, but it's unclear if the others had already been rescued.

AMMAN, Jordan (AP) — Jordan has followed through on its vow to act swiftly against terrorists following the killing of one of its military pilots by Islamist State extremists. A government spokesman says two prisoners, including a would-be female suicide bomber from al-Qaida, were put to death early Wednesday. She had been on death row for her role in a bombing plot that killed dozens in the Jordanian capital in 2005. An Islamic State video released Tuesday purportedly shows the pilot being burned alive.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Expressing what it calls "deep concerns," The U.N. Security Council is calling on immediate stepped up regional military coordination and operations to combat the terrorist group Boko Haram (BOH'-koh hah-RAHM'). It operates in Nigeria and neighboring countries. African leaders at a summit Saturday authorized the creation of a 7,500-strong multinational force to take on the extremists.

ATLANTA (AP) — A lawyer representing entertainer Bobby Brown says his client's daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, isn't and never has been married. That disputes reports the she had married Nick Gordon. She has been hospitalized since Saturday, when she was found unresponsive in a bathtub. Bobbi Kristina is the only child of Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston, who was also found unresponsive in a hotel bathtub in 2012.
