WASHINGTON (AP) — A House committee hearing today shows that emotions are running hotter than ever in the dispute over the IRS and political fundraising. Commissioner John Koskinen refused to apologize for lost emails that might shed light on the tax agency's past targeting of tea party and other groups. Republican Rep. Paul Ryan told Koskinen bluntly that nobody believes the story.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Veterans Affairs Department says about 65 percent of its senior executives got performance bonuses last year despite widespread treatment delays and preventable deaths at the department's hospitals and clinics. A VA official says more than 300 executives were paid a total of $2.7 million in bonuses last year.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell is naming a new high-level operations manager to supervise HealthCare.gov. She also says she's hiring a CEO for the online portal and a technology leader to specifically handle all aspects of expansion for coverage under President Barack Obama's health care law. Eight million people have already signed up.

CLEVELAND (AP) — A man twice convicted of killing a woman and eight children at a birthday sleepover in Cleveland's deadliest house fire is facing 35 years in federal prison. Antun Lewis was sentenced today. The 30-year-old asked the judge for mercy and expressed condolences to the victims' families. Lewis was deemed ineligible for the death penalty because of a mental disability.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is offering his congratulations to the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Kings for their championship wins this year. Obama called the Spurs head coach today to commend the team's NBA Finals victory. He also called the captain of the Kings following the team's Stanley Cup win. Both teams will be invited to the White House.
