WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad is the largest American diplomatic post in the world and there are concerns it could be a target if advancing al-Qaida linked militants reach Iraq's capital. Security is being beefed up and some staff are being temporarily moved to other parts of Iraq and to Jordan. But the State Department says a "substantial majority" of staff will remain.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Thousands of Shiite men are heeding a call from their most revered spiritual leader to take up arms against the Sunni militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant who have swept across much of northern Iraq. The ISIL is vowing to take the fight to Baghdad and cities in the south where there are revered Shiite shrines. The government is bolstering Baghdad's defenses.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a Georgia teenager on a Father's Day visit to New Jersey to honor his deceased dad has been killed, along with his mother and four others, when a fast-moving fire ripped through a house. Officials say the blaze broke out at the three-story single-family residence in Newark early today and soon spread to another home. Both structures were destroyed.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) — Fire crews are continuing to fight a wildfire that's threatening 500 homes in central California. The fire is burning in and around the Sequoia National Forest and is now within a mile of Wofford Heights, which is about 30 miles northeast of Bakersfield. People are being urged to evacuate. The blaze has scorched nearly three square miles.

NEW YORK (AP) - Starbucks is rolling out a program that would allow its workers to earn an online college degree at Arizona State University at a discounted rate. The coffee chain is partnering with the school to offer the option to 135,000 U.S. employees who work at least 20 hours a week. The company says it will phase out its existing tuition reimbursement program.
