This past school year, a barrier was identified in the Glendale community where students walking from Riley Elementary School to the Sorenson Unity Center had to walk around a large fence along a very busy street.

To solve the problem, a partnership was formed between the Salt Lake City School District and the Sorenson Unity Center. A walkway was constructed between the two facilities to provide ease of access to after school programs and ensure student safety.

The Sorenson Unity Center serves as a community resource and gathering place where all cultures are celebrated and welcomed. It is place where students and families can utilize community education, programs, and activities.

By looking closely at this obstacle to student success, these organizations came together to break down the barrier and build a bridge! Children are an important part of Utah's future, and education is a key strategy for improving everyone's quality of life.

SelectHealth recognizes the importance of creating community partnerships as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
