MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A federal judge's decision striking down Wisconsin's voter-approved same-sex marriage ban marks the 15th state win for gay rights activists. The state attorney general plans an appeal and the judge says she'll rule later on a request to put her decision on hold. Clerks in Madison and Milwaukee began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples shortly after the decision.

HONOLULU (AP) — A federal jury in Hawaii has begun deliberating the sentence of a former soldier convicted of his 5-year-old daughter's murder. Prosecutors argued for a death sentence while a defense attorney asked for mercy for Naeem Williams. Prosecutors say he beat and tortured his young daughter almost daily when she lived with him while he was stationed in Hawaii. The jury returns to work next week.

LUCKNOW, India (AP) — There's rioting across northern India over electricity. Substations have been burned and power company officials have been taken hostage as thousands of people took to the streets, enraged by power cuts during an extreme heat wave.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Thousands of people in a remote part of northern Afghanistan have been forced from their homes and more than 50 have died in severe flooding. Authorities say the death toll could climb and outside help hasn't materialized in the rugged area.

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) — A Washington state judge has ruled that Casey Kasem's daughter, not her stepmother, is in charge of the medical care for the 82-year-old radio personality, who remains in critical condition with an infected bedsore. The judge also ruled all members of Kasem's family can visit him at the hospital — just not at the same time. The former radio show host is suffering from a form of dementia.
