OUISTREHAM, France (AP) — Neither the U.S. nor Russia is providing many details of today's 15-minute conversation between President Vladimir Putin and President Barack Obama in France, where both are marking the D-Day anniversary. The meeting came a day after Obama and Western allies warned Moscow that it could face new sanctions within weeks. They said yesterday that Russia could avoid those penalties in part by recognizing the new Ukrainian government and by ending support for an insurgency in eastern Ukraine. Putin also met today with the incoming Ukrainian president.

CUMMING, Ga. (AP) — Court records show that the man accused of shooting a deputy at a Georgia courthouse this morning had filed a civil rights complaint against the sheriff's department last year. Authorities say Dennis Marx was armed with guns, explosives and other supplies when he arrived at the courthouse. He died at the scene after being shot. It's unclear whether the injured deputy shot Marx.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Seven couples have filed a federal lawsuit challenging the ban on same-sex marriage in North Dakota. It had been the last remaining state without a court challenge. The lawsuit challenges both North Dakota's constitutional ban on gay marriage and its refusal to recognize marriages of same-sex couples who legally wed in other states. The lawsuit means cases are currently pending in all 31 states with gay marriage bans.

LITTLE FALLS, N.J. (AP) — Among the D-Day veterans being honored on this 70th anniversary of the historic invasion is a man who was a 19-year-old minor league baseball player when he served on a small attack boat launching rockets at the Germans from 300 yards offshore during the landing. He's 89-year-old baseball legend Yogi Berra, who was honored today by the New Jersey museum that bears his name -- as well as by the Navy and several veterans groups. Berra says he was fortunate to survive D-Day, as three of his comrades died.

NEW YORK (AP) — California Chrome has finished his final run-through before he goes for history and the Triple Crown in the Belmont Stakes tomorrow in New York. The chestnut colt galloped two miles around the Belmont Park oval today after visiting the paddock where he will be saddled on race day. The Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner will try tomorrow to end a 36-year Triple Crown drought with a victory in the 1 1/2-mile Belmont.
